Ingrid,
I think the problem you are having is the setting of the cache_mem
option in the squid.conf. This value should be set to approx. 1/3 of the
memory you intend squid to use.
So, if you want squid to use 120 Mb or RAM then set cache_mem to
about 40 Mb. Then modify the setting slightly to get memory usage up or
down.
