The only thing that comes to mind is to check your DNS setup on the
Squid machine. It may be possible that the DNS settings is incorrect
causing large delays when looking up host names.

To check if this is your problem, run dnsserver by hand and test it by
typing host names. If it takes some time for it to respond then there is
some kind of DNS problem.
