I've gotten squid to run on Mac OS X/Darwin 1.2, however I need some
pointers. (BTW, the link to the docs page from www.squid-cache.org is
broken, as far as I can tell).
OS X can run OS 9 apps in "classic" mode (sort of a VM), but while running
that way, classic apps can't access ppp connections. I get around this for
some apps by using a program called "PortReflector", which can redirect ftp,
mail, and telnet requests by mapping to a different port. It doesn't work
with http connections, though. I thought that I could get around this by
setting up squid as a web-caching proxy server. However, I am connecting to
Mindspring on a DSL modem using rp-pppoe (I don't have a static IP). Can
squid work with pppoe, or does it require a dhcp connection?
