[SQU] pam and ldap and solaris

solaris8 has a pam_ldap security module...
i've compiled ldap_auth and it returns OK at the command_line...
when i put it in squid.conf, and restart squid, zero (0) helpers are
started...

two questions:
1. how can i get the helpers started and authenticate http requests from
browers (real question is to get ldap_auth to work).
2. is there a configuration similar to pam_auth for an ldap module to
interface with pam_ldap that would be configured to bounce back
authentications to an active directory server/openldap server?
