[squid-users] Squid defunct

I have installed a Debian box (kernel 2.2.19) with Squid 2.2.5-3.1 compiled
from the deb source (I set IO threads to 64). Its installed as a transparent
proxy, redirected the trafic from a cisco router.
2 x PIII 600 compiled for only one CPU.
        1024Mb RAM
        2 x SCSI 18Gb only 10Gb to cache.
The number of access/minute 900 aprox.

I have suffered two squid chashes (the system is still reachable). If I try
to stop squid i can't. A "ps ax" shows that squid process is "defunct" and if
i try to shutdown the box, the shutdown process defuncts and the box doesnt
reboot.

When i execute "ps ax" appears the follow message:
-----------
{module_list} {module_list_R__ver_module_list}
Warning: /boot/System.map-2.2.19 does not match kernel data.
-----------

Could be the dnsserver processes the problem of the crashes? or System.map?
or???? I accept suggestions. Thanks.

PD: Arrrgghh sorry, dont kill me Shakespeare!!!

The cache.log shows:
