Did you make sure that the process resource limit on file descriptors
is set to 8192 *both* when you compile *and* when you start Squid ?

If you're running some bash on Linux, that would be:

ulimit -HSn 8192

before you compile Squid, and it the script that starts it (I have
added this to RunCache).
