[squid-users] Problem with authentication

I've been searching the archives for a while, but haven't found any
pointers, even though I fear that this may be a FAQ.

  I'm fighting a problem with proxy authentication. Our users use
proxy authentication, but as soon as they try to login to a web site
that uses http authentication, their proxy credentials are lost. This
is painful if you need to download multiple files from a site: they
need to enter /both/ usernames and passwords for each single file.
I'm reasonably sure that this is not the way it's intended to
function.

  Can anybody help me what I need to do differently?
